Name: Amy "Emy" J. Drake Date: February 2nd, 2010 Death Notice: Mrs. Amy “Emy” J. Drake, age 95, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, in Portage. MI. She was born March 26, 1914 in Muskegon to Gustav Emil & Hilda (Johansson) Carlson in Muskegon where she resided until moving to Kalamazoo to be near her daughter Pam, in 2008. Amy had been employed for many years as an LPN in the OB/Nursery Department of Hackley Hospital prior to her retirement. She was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church and had been active in its ladies circles and the Vasa Lodge. She enjoyed playing bridge and in later life, euchre in Kalamazoo. She was an avid golfer, bowler and bird watcher; and had a special love for her cats. On December 27, 1941 she married Theodore R. Drake and he preceded her in death in January of 1987. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Hunt. SURVIVORS include 2 daughters, Christie “Jody” (Tom) Hakala of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada and Pamela (Larry) Blochard of Kalamazoo, MI; 6 grandchildren, Ben, Andrew (Chrystal) Hakala and Kalle (Jen) Hakala of Ontario; Adam Blochard of N.C. and Erica (fiancé Tyler Reynolds) Blochard and Abbey (Corey VanDenBerg) Blochard of Kalamazoo. A Memorial Service for Amy will be held at a later date at Samuel Lutheran Church. Memorial Gifts to the Muskegon Humane Society and Animal Rescue will be appreciated.
